Junior faculty members who receive federal new investigator awards, such as the NSF CAREER, ONR Young Investigator Award, or DARPA YFA, have the opportunity to request up to $20,000 in research support from Georgia Tech.

This support falls under the category of Institutional Commitment and is not exclusively tied to the grant-funded project(s). As a result, it is not documented as cost-sharing for the sponsor. However, it should be acknowledged as other support or resources, as required or appropriate, without quantifying it in the proposal.

Here are some key points about this program:

Usage and Approval

  • These funds can be utilized to cover project costs across any budget category.
  • The request for new investigator support must be submitted as an Institutional Commitment in GT-TRACS during the proposal submission process.
  • Approval is contingent upon receiving the new investigator grant.

Eligibility

  • This program is a special recognition initiative for Georgia Tech faculty who achieve the significant career milestone of receiving a new investigator award.
  • Faculty who receive a new investigator award from another institution and transfer it to Georgia Tech are not eligible for this support related to the transferred award.

Maximum Amount

  • Each investigator can receive a maximum of $20,000.
  • Georgia Tech provides this support only once, regardless of the number of awards received.
