In January 2021, the U.S. government released National Security Presidential Memorandum 33 (NSPM-33) to address the increasing concerns about foreign government interference and exploitation of federally-funded research. The memorandum directs agencies and departments to prioritize enhancing research security.
Georgia Tech researchers can comply with NSPM-33 by registering with ORCID to obtain a digital identifier (an ORCID iD).
What is ORCID?
ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a non-profit organization developed by the research community. It provides you with a unique 16-character digital identifier, known as your ORCID iD, which distinguishes you from other researchers with similar names. You can use this iD to link your research to yourself, ensuring that your work is correctly attributed to you.
ORCID is already being used by many publishers, funders, universities, research organizations, and professional associations to identify researchers and their work.
Your ORCID iD is owned by you, not your institution, giving you complete control over the data associated with your iD.
ORCID Training
Access to ORCID training videos is available by logging into Georgia Tech's Learning Management System using SSO. You can find the videos by searching for "ORCID" or under the "How To" category.
